The Market – prospects

Our members were asked about their views about the future of all their key markets, looking at opportunities, challenges, and the impact of Net-Zero policies.

Self-pay continues to represent the greatest opportunities for future growth, but members’ responses indicate that this market may have reached its peak. Respondents feel increasingly confident regarding Private Medical Insurance, with the number of people viewing it as an opportunity almost doubling from last year.

Looking at our members’ markets in their totality, we asked what area people expected to see the biggest growth in, with over half (54%) selecting NHS-funded care – more than all three other options combined.

Fiscal concerns such as the impact of an increased NI contribution and the current state of public finances are by far the two biggest concerns faced by our members, with over half of respondents identifying these are issues. This is in contrast to last year when access to skilled workforce and overall workforce shortages was cited as the greatest challenge facing the independent sector.

Confidence levels regarding achieving net zero by 2035 remain high, with 69% confident or reasonably confident that their organisation will meet this ambitious target – a slight decrease from 76% last year, albeit with an increase in those who are very confident. IHPN continues to provide support and subject matter expertise to our members through our wide-ranging programme of work around Net Zero.
