IHPN Industry Barometer: State of the Sector 2024
Supported by
Headline Findings
Our fifth annual IHPN Industry Barometer provides a snapshot of how senior leaders across the independent healthcare sector feel about all their key markets and the issues affecting their business. Key findings include:
- Continued positivity about the private market, particularly in terms of PMI which is seen as the biggest opportunity for growth in the coming year.
- Confidence around the NHS market has softened somewhat though providers still expect NHS funded services to show the largest growth over the next 12 months
- The current state of public finances and tight fiscal policy is a key challenge for the sector with pressure to achieve savings seen as the biggest driver of commissioner behaviour in the NHS
- Workforce challenges again came out as the biggest area of concern regarding quality and safety – though members are clearly taking a proactive approach to “grow their own” and provide greater employee support.
- A jump in the uncertainty around the regulatory landscape with providers waiting to see the outcomes of the ongoing reviews by Dr Penny Dash.
