Quality and safety in the independent healthcare sector 2024
Macmillan Quality Environment Mark
The Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) is an award that recognises cancer care environments that prioritise patient well-being and patient-friendly spaces. To be eligible organisations, at least 80% of services must focus on cancer care.
The award involves an on-site independent assessment by professionals and patient volunteers, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement. Renewed every three years, the process evaluates design, user journey, service experience, and user feedback.
Macmillan describes successful environments as those that are:
- welcoming and accessible to all
- respectful of people’s privacy and dignity
- supportive of the users’ comfort and well-being
- gives choice and control to people using your service
- listens to the voice of the user.
72 independent providers currently hold MQEM awards.
