In response to the NMC’s proposed changes to the requirements for nurses and midwives from outside the UK taking the International English Language Test System (IELTS), David Hare, Chief Executive of the Independent Healthcare Providers Network (IHPN) said:

“Like the NHS, the independent health sector currently faces significant challenges in recruiting nurses, particularly in light of Brexit. We therefore welcome the NMC’s proposed changes to English language tests which will undoubtedly help increase numbers of overseas nurses coming to the UK, whilst maintaining safe levels of care and effective communication between nurses and patients and the wider clinical team.”
