Responding to the publication of Sir Mike Richards’ Independent Review of Adult Screening Programmes, David Hare, Chief Executive of the Independent Healthcare Providers Network, said:
“We welcome Sir Mike Richards’ report into cancer screening services which sets out a roadmap to significantly improving cancer diagnosis in England.
“As Sir Mike makes clear, cancer screening services need to fit in around the needs of patients, not the other way around, and we therefore welcome his call for people to be given much greater choice over when and where they are screened. Key to this is to increase diagnostics capacity and to make more efficient and productive use of the diagnostics capability that we have in this country. Innovative partnerships between the NHS and independent sector are already leading to significant investment in scanning services, helping to make screening more accessible to people’s homes and workplaces – a significant resource for cancer screening services to draw on now and in the future.
“We look forward to Sir Mike’s final report later on in the year on overall diagnostics capacity and we will continue to work with him and his team to ensure both the existing and potential contribution of the independent sector to the delivery of diagnostics care is recognised in the final report.”
